How Much Would You Pay For Fire or Police Assistance?

A town in New Jersey that is facing severe budget issues is seriously considering charging residents for 911 calls and other emergencies.  So if you’re house catches fire, or you get into a car accident and need to call the police, you’ll be charged somewhere between $500 and $1,000.

What do you think of the idea? Is it a brilliant way to cut spending and cut taxes? Or a dangerous idea that will result in people not getting help when they need it.
