Hollywood Improv to Host Mental Health Benefit in October

Jeannette Rizzi is a comic on a mission. The Florida native, like many of her fellow comedians, met with tragedy early on in life. At the age of 17, Rizzi lost her best friend, Katie, to suicide at only 15 years old. The loss of her friend was a devastating one, and the grief that followed has lead Rizzi down her own path of depression and suicidal thoughts that she’s had to battle throughout her life. Rizzi is determined, however, and it appears that she’s winning that fight.

In an effort to pay respect to her friend and help prevent others from experiencing the loss that she and Katie’s family felt, Rizzi created her own one-woman show called Blindsided. In it, Rizzi takes to the stage to deliver a performance that is funny, raw, emotional and uplifting all at once. It is an autobiographical account of her own experiences, and also a look at the experiences of the masses of people around the country, and the world, who have had their worlds rocked by the earthquake that is losing a friend or family member to suicide.

With Blindsided, Rizzi hopes to erase the stigma that surrounds suicide so that an open and honest discussion can take place and (hopefully) a few lives can be saved. With that in mind, Rizzi has teamed up with comedy website Laughspin and the Hollywood Improv to put on a special performance of her show.

On Thursday, October 20th, Rizzi will perform Blindsided at the Hollywood Improv, with all ticket proceeds being donated to Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased at the Improv’s website.
