Here’s Lucy! New Statue Replaces “Scary Lucy” In Icon’s Hometown

The nightmare is finally over. Not only is it over, there’s a beautiful new statue standing in its place. The town of Celoron, New York is waking up this morning and looking out at a brand new statue of the town’s favorite daughter Lucille Ball.

For years, Celoron was known for something that overshadowed being the birthplace of the First Lady of Comedy. It was a statue that was unveiled in her honor back in 2009. The statue was so hideous and so unflattering to Lucille Ball that it became known as “Scary Lucy”. After complaints and humiliation, a new statue was commissioned and it was unveiled this past Saturday on what would have been Lucille Ball’s 105th birthday.

After such bad reviews on the last Lucy statue, the new artist hired to correct the town embarrassment with a new sculpture was really really anxious about the unveiling and what people would think of her work. Carolyn Palmer told the Hollywood Reporter, “I’ve lived and breathed every second of Lucy for the last nine months.” She used models that were Lucille Ball’s height wearing vintage clothing to create the new more glamorous version of Lucille Ball. The statue is adorned in a polka dot dress and string of pearls with heels and a pocketbook reminiscent of the 1950s when the early sitcom “I Love Lucy” was a massive hit with American TV audiences. The statue is standing on a replica of Lucille Ball’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star.

While her statue is getting raves, Carolyn Palmer has sympathy for Dave Poulin, the creator of “Scary Lucy”. “I’m a thin-skinned person and artists are sensitive, and I do feel bad for that other fellow. I find that the world was a little harsh on him.”, adding “That’s the biggest nightmare in the world for anybody.”

“Scary Lucy” will be relocated to a different part of Lucille Ball Memorial Park in Celoron, where the new Lucy statue stands. May we suggest a secluded wooded area?
