Show: Ari Shaffir’s Renamed Storytelling Show

Venue: The Bell House
Location:
149 7th Street Brooklyn

Time: 8pm
Description of Show and Lineup:

Stand-up comedian, podcaster and actor ARI SHAFFIR describes his comedy as a puppet show–but way filthier and without the puppets. The New York native grew up Orthodox Jewish, spent 2 years in a yeshiva in Israel, and came back to America to lose his religion and become a comic. LA Weekly has called Shaffir “a gifted unyielding comic…a real force to be reckoned with.”

This July, Shaffir released two Netflix specials called Double Negative Which is presented in two 45 minute episodes called Children and Adulthood.Self-described as his version of a “Smashing Pumpkins Double Album,” this type of double header release hasn’t been seen since George Carlin’s 1972 release of FM & AM. In Children Shaffir discusses the pressure he is getting from his family and friends to have kids, and why he is getting more and more thoughts in his head about why he doesn’t want to do that and in Adulthood, he discusses the freedoms of being child-free.  Decider.com called Shaffir’s Netflix debut“positively audacious.” Shaffir recently finished 3 seasons as the host and co-creator of Comedy Central’s weekly storytelling series This is Not Happening. He was a regular panel guest on the series @midnight, and TBS’s Conan. In 2016, Shaffir co-starred Zach Galifianakis, Gal Gadot and Jon Hamm in Twentieth Century Fox’s comedy Keeping Up With The Joneses.

Shaffir also hosts the wildly popular podcast, Skeptic Tank, a weekly interview show where he chats with everyone from parents to comedians to prostitutes “to help better understand humanity and also to make fart jokes.” The podcast is consistently among the top-rated podcasts on iTunes and averages over 100,000 downloads per week.  Shaffir is also an avid sports fan and gets together with Sam Tripoli and Jayson Thibault once a week to record the Punch Drunk Podcast. Dubbed “an Asian massage for the real sports fans,” by The Podcast Tribune, these three stand-up comics share their sports thoughts, arguments, stories, fights, and bets. In the past 5 years, Shaffir has released two hour-long standup specials on Comedy Central entitled Paid Regular and Passive Aggressive. Prior to these popular specials, Shaffir’s standup album Revenge for the Holocaust went to #1 on both iTunes charts and Amazon.com the week of its premiere. He continues to perform standup to sold-out crowds nationwide and has been featured at Montreal’s prestigious Just for Laughs Festival, San Francisco SketchFest, SXSW, the Edinburgh Comedy Festival, The Moontower Comedy and Oddity Festival.

Show:  Joey Diaz

Venue: Gotham Comedy Club
Location:
208 W. 23rd Street NYC

Time: 8pm & 10pm
Description of Show and Lineup:

Born in Havana, Cuba and raised in North Bergen, NJ, Joey ‘Coco’ Diaz has quickly become one of the most sought after actors and comedians in the entertainment industry today. His love of storytelling is reflected in each role he takes: whether it is on film or on stage, his passion for entertaining and delighting audiences shines through every performance. This winter, Diaz can next be seen starring as ‘Mikey’ opposite Sylvester Stallone, Robert De Niro, Kevin Hart, and Kim Basinger in the highly anticipated feature film “Grudge Match” (Warner Bros.). Diaz’s start in comedy began while serving a short stint at a correctional facility in Denver, CO in 1988. “Each Wednesday we would watch movies on the projector, but sometimes it would break,” he shares, “so I would get up and do stand up to fill the time.” Learning he had the skills to make an audience laugh, he pursued comedy after his release and began performing at an assortment of comedy clubs in the area.

While he was touring as a working comic, he began acting in a variety television and film roles. You may recognize him from his appearances in “The Mentalist”, “Children’s Hospital”, “My Name is Earl”, or “General Hospital” – to name a few. On the film front, Diaz has held roles in “The Longest Yard”, “Spider Man 2”, “Smiley Face”, and “Taxi”, among others. In 2013, Diaz continues to perform stand up and act, while also staying on top of the new media move in podcasting. Currently, Diaz hosts his bi-weekly podcast “The Church of What’s Happening Now,” which ranks among some of the most highly downloaded podcasts online. He is also a regular guest on Joe Rogan’s popular podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience.”

On the comedy front, Diaz continues to tour and perform at the biggest comedy clubs in the country. His comedy specials in “The Testicle Testaments” have sold thousands of downloads, and have even made it to the Billboard Top 100. Diaz’s raw style of comedy is highlighted on television with recurring sketch roles on “Stand Up Revolution” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Later this year, Diaz will release his new DVD/CD special – which will surely top the charts once more.

In December of 2016, Joey released his first ever hour comedy special titled “Socially Unacceptable”. Sociably Unacceptable debuted on NBC Universal’s digital platform Seeso and quickly has become one of the biggest hits on the platform. On January 27th, 2017, “Joey Diaz: Socially Unacceptable” will be released on iTunes, Apple Music, Google Play, Spotify, and all digital audio retailers.
