LIVE STAND UP COMEDY THURSDAY 4/27

Show: Michael Che

Venue: Carolines on Broadway
Location:
1626 Broadway NYC

Time:  7:30pm & 10pm
Description of Show and Lineup:

Critics and audiences agree, NY-based writer and standup comedian Michael Che is a star on the rise. Having recently been named one of Rolling Stone’s “50 Funniest People,” Buzzfeed’s “50 Hottest Men in Comedy,” and Variety’s “Top 10 Comics To Watch,” he is quickly leaving his mark on the media landscape. A native of lower Manhattan, Che’s comedy uses humor to identify humanity in the most controversial actions. He applies street culture to world issues with a delivery that The New York Times describes as “a reflective, laid-back stage presence with jokes that draw as much from his city upbringing…as from blunt, insightful points that bring the abstract into focus.”

In September of 2014, Che made his debut as the newest co-anchor of Saturday Night Live’s iconic “Weekend Update” segment where he is also a staff writer for the show. Prior to joining SNL, he was part of “The Best F*&#ing News Team Ever!” as a correspondent on Comedy Central’s Emmy & Peabody Award-winning program The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. In February of 2014, Che became the first-ever standup [comedian] to perform on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers. This marks his second late night appearance following his 2012 late night television debut on CBS’s Late Show with David Letterman. Che also recently taped his first stand-up special, which aired earlier this year on Comedy Central as part of the premiere block of the new season of The Half-Hour stand-up series.

Last year Che “won the internet” when he appeared on Comedy Central’s hit series @midnight. In 2012 he appeared as a weekly cast member on Vh1’s Best Week Ever. Che has also been featured on Comedy Central’s John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show, MTV’s Money from Strangers, and as a recurring contestant on IFC’s comedy game show Bunk. That year, he also created, wrote and starred in the original web series “The Realest Candidate” on Broadway Video’s YouTube channel, Above Average.

In August 2013, Che headlined a successful month-long run of standup shows entitled “Cartoon Violence” at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, with The Guardian raving, “his effectiveness as a comic is instant.”

Che performed on the 2014 Oddball Comedy and Curiosity festival tour and has performed at The Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Comedy Central’s South Beach Comedy Festival, The Moontower Comedy Festival, The Montreal Comedy Festival, and Bonnaroo, where The Nashville Scene proclaimed “Straight up: Michael Che is going to be a star.” He was crowned the winner of the New York’s Funniest Stand-Up competition at the 2012 New York Comedy Festival, and both Time-Out NY and Comedy Central have listed him as one of their “Comics To Watch.” He headlines comedy shows nationally and internationally.

She is also a weird cat lady who wears tiaras more than an adult woman should.

Halle Kiefer is a writer and comedian who has written for truTV, MTV, Nickelodeon, VH1 and Rolling Stone. She’s performed  at Boston’s Women In Comedy Festival, the Philadelphia Fringe Festival and the Del Close Marathon. She currently writes for Vulture. Show: Stand Up For Pits

Venue: Gotham Comedy Club
Location:
208 W. 23rd Street NYC

Time: 7:30pm
Description of Show and Lineup:

The Stand Up For Pits Foundation is thrilled to be bringing Stand Up For Pits back to New York City!

The SUFP Foundation is dedicated to ending abuse, discrimination and saving the lives of pitbull “type” dogs.  This “type” of dog based solely on appearance is the target of extreme abuse, bans and has been falsely vilified for over 3 decades. Stand Up For Pits events help us to educate, advocate and save lives. Pitbull type dogs are born inherently good and deserve to be protected, respected and treated with compassion and without prejudice like all life deserves.

These events sell out around the country, save countless lives and continue to raise national and international awareness. We support other pitbull “type” dog rescues around the country. Sean Casey Animal Rescue will be participating this year and will be bringing available Pibbles for adoption, selling merchandise and will receive 100% of proceeds from the silent auction, merch and will be accepting donations. Tickets benefit the Stand Up For Pits Foundation.

We are all in this together and there is much work that needs to be done.  We thank you all for your dedication to being the voice of the voiceless and being part of the solution to saving lives and look so forward to seeing you all in New York and even though the Donation Drive is the day before, please feel free to bring some much needed shelter supplies for local shelter animals!
