The Johnny Cash Show was taped in Nashville at the Ryman Auditorium, home of the Grand Ole Opry. Airing on ABC from 1969-71, this show was truly groundbreaking television. At such a turbulent time in US history, Cash managed to unite the predominantly conservative country music audience with the peace-loving, hippie culture of folk and rock performers.
The first half of the show usually featured Johnny’s guests while the latter part featured Johnny, June and accompaniment by Carl Perkins & the Tennessee Three. We picked out some of our favorite guest performances.
