Goldthwait, Gethard, Sedaris Lead Rich Lineup of Stand-Up Comedian Helmed Shows Coming To truTV

In recent years, truTV has undergone a serious rebranding. Previously known as the home of courtroom dramas and crime shows, the network has refocused their efforts towards comedy, and they have taken that effort very seriously. Now, the network has a slate of popular comedy shows, and has made itself a home for budding new talents and fresh faces like The Grawlix and Michael Carbonaro. As all of the major networks begin to announce their programming plans for the next year, truTV has made it clear that they are 150% committed to contributing to the world of comedy, with 18 creator-driven comedy series on the slate for the 2017-2018 season.

First and foremost are the network veterans: truTV has announced that they have renewed or ordered additional episodes of a handful of their popular comedy series, including Impractical Jokers, The Carbonaro Effect, Adam Ruins Everything, Those Who Can’t, Jon Glaser Loves Gear, Comedy Knockout, You Can Do Better and Hack My Life.

What’s more exciting, however, is the new blood that the network’s bringing in. And by “new blood” we mean “new to the network,” because a few of the faces coming to truTV are seasoned and beloved comedians that are guaranteed to bring some serious heat. Those shows are:

The Chris Gethard Show: Chris Gethard will be bringing his uber-popular public access show to a national audience on Wednesday, August 2nd at 11 p.m. ET. The hour-long talk show will be broadcast live from New York City and will feature live call-ins from fans, live music, bizarre games and a panel of comics and celebrities just trying to take it all in. This one is bound to be one of the network’s biggest acquisitions, and with folks like Gethard, Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis executive producing, it really should not be missed.

Bobcat Goldthwait’s Misfits & Monsters: In this anthology series, Goldthwait, a Sundance Film Festival regular and award winning director, will expertly satirize American culture via a new story (and new genre) each episode. Science fiction, reality, and romantic fiction will all get the Goldthwait treatment in this experimental new show.

At Home with Amy Sedaris: This one-of-a-kind show will feature Amy Sedaris (Strangers with Candy) demonstrating her homemaking skills (cooking, baking, crafting, etc) while also doing something else she’s really good at: being hilarious. The part variety, part hospitality, part talk show promises to be like nothing you’ve seen before.

I’m Sorry: This scripted show will depict the life of Andrea (played by Veep’s Andrea Savage), a comedy writer, wife and mother who appears to have it all together, except for the fact that she’s an often-annoying, immature person who can’t help but let her neuroses be known by all. Debuting on Wednesday, July 12th at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Laff Mobb’s Laff Tracks: Hosted by DJ/comedian Cipha Sounds, the show will be a showcase of new comics putting a unique spin on the storytelling/stand-up genre.

On top of the newly announced shows that have been brought to series, the network also has a few pilots and projects in the works from some promising up-and-comers in comedy. Those projects are:

Untitled Liza Treyger Project: The NYC comic is currently producing and starring in a pilot for truTV which will depict the comic and her “family” of misfit friends living in Chicago.

Untitled Austin Martinez Comedy: Each episode of this show will depict relatable, everyday situations that make one feel like “an official adult,” such as buying furniture, being the one to handle an emergency, and babysitting your friend’s kids. The show will star the Austin Martinez comedy duo, which consists of Molly Austin and Shamikah Martinez.

False Advertising: This show will feature comedy group The Kloons creating convincing commercials for surreal products — like “Cheez-Its Christ” and a Prada body-bag — and attempting to get real-life focus groups to buy into the ruse.

Paid Off with Michael Torpey: Writer/actor Michael Torpey has a crazy idea for a game show: Give college grads the chance to completely pay off their student loan debts by putting them on a quiz show to prove that they really paid attention in class.

End Times Girls Club: Creator Rose Schlossberg will star as Rose, a paranoid doomsday prepper who will educate girls on how to survive the end of the world, and look cute doing it.
