Gervais “David Brent” Song About Princess Diana Causes Controversy Before Anyone Even Hears It

Not everyone is laughing about a song in Ricky Gervais’ new movie “David Brent, Life on the Road,” and the movie isn’t even out yet. As you know by now, the lovable, hateable character from The Office is trying to make a go of a career in music in the new movie, and already causing controversy.

We haven’t seen the film, but according to various UK media sources, the movie includes an extended version of the track of the song “Paris Nights” which was originally performed on The Office to Dawn, and at the Concert for Diana as an homage of sorts to the late Princess Diana.

According to The Mirror some of the lyrics of the extended version include,

“You hugged a man with full-blown AIDS, To show the world you can’t catch it that way.” “It’s only spread via blood, By sharing needles that are infected, Another way is having anal sex with strangers unprotected.”

As you can imagine, several of the tracks are on the offensive or otherwise awful side– after all, what other kinds of songs would you expect in a David Brent movie?

Other tracks include “Don’t Make Fun of the Disabled”, which of course makes fun of the disabled, another song that is an ode to a specific disabled child, and here’s a track from the movie released earlier this summer, “Lady Gypsy.”

David Brent, Life on the Road will be released in the UK on August 19.
