Gary Owen is a comedian about to embark into the world of reality television, but before his new show debuts on BET, he stopped by the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Gary didn’t talk too much about his new reality series other than to accept congratulations from Colbert. He had plenty of other stories to tell from his days in the Navy and when he first started out in comedy.

It’s unsure if Gary Owen’s story about Bill Clinton’s first inauguration in January, 1993 could end up being ammo for Donald Trump in the next Presidential debate, but it involves the Navy Honor Guard, the Florida A&M University marching band and the song “Tootsie Roll” by the 69 Boyz. You be the judge.

If you watch Gary Owen’s full Colbert appearance below, you’ll also find out why Gary Owen loved being in the military so much, how he almost got the Comedy Store in La Jolla, California shut down during his first time on stage and how he earned the title of “Funniest Serviceman in America”. The competition for that title wasn’t as tough as you would think it would be.

You’ve already seen Gary in movies like “Ride Along” and “Think Like a Man”, both starring Kevin Hart. Gary’s been on scripted television co-starring in Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. Plus on stage, he’s hosted “Shaquille O’Neal Presents: All Star Comedy Jam – Live from Orlando”, had another Showtime stand up special last year titled, “I Agree With Myself” and he is currently touring across the country. Now it’s reality television’s turn to experience Gary Owen with “The Gary Owen Show” premiering October 11th on BET. Check out some quick promos for the show below as well.
