Ellen DeGeneres accepted the Teen Choice award for Choice Comedy last night to a huge ovation and the internet is just raving about her acceptance speech calling it “powerful” and “moving” and proclaiming “it will make you feel things!” DeGeneres urged teens to be proud to be different, letting them know it pays off later on. And then she dedicated the giant surfboard she just won to her wife of seven years.

“I wanna say also it feels good to be chosen,” she said, “but there was a time in my life that I was not chosen. I was the opposite of chosen because I was different, and I think I wanna make sure that everyone knows that what makes you different right now, makes you stand out later in life. So you should be proud of being different, you should be proud of who you are.”

If only she had told them to “just stay in school” it would have been perfect. DeGeneres was up against fellow nominees Amy Schumer, George Lopez, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and Kevin Hart.

In other comedy categories, Pitch Perfect 2 won for Best comedy, Skylar Astin got a surfboard for Best Actor in a Comedy for Pitch Perfect 2, Anna Kendrick won for Best Actress in a Comedy for Pitch Perfect 2, Ross Lynch won TV Actor in a Comedy for the Disney Channel’s Austin & Ally, Lea Michele won for TV Actress in a Comedy for Glee, and The Big Bang Theory took the Best TV Comedy Award for teens.
