Acclaimed actress Ellen Barkin will guest star on the Showtime pilot of Happyish. The Emmy and Tony Award winning actress will play Dani Kirschenbloom, a corporate headhunter who works closely with ad executive Thom Payne (Steve Coogan) who believes that the concept of happiness is a myth.

Happyish was originally scheduled to have a 10 episode run with Phillip Seymour Hoffman in the lead, but his sudden, shocking death this past February caused the show to get to retooled as a pilot. Steve Coogan was named to replace Hoffman with Kathryn Hahn and Bradley Whitford rounding out the cast.

A renowned stage and screen actress for over 30 years, Barkin has made memorable appearances in such films as Diner, Eddie & The Cruisers, Sea Of Love, The Big Easy, and Ocean’s Thirteen. In 2011, she won a Tony Award for her role in The Normal Heart and has recently was featured on the TV series The New Normal and Modern Family. The addition of Barkin to the cast certainly has Auslander amped up. He was quoted as “Ellen Barkin? Are you kidding me? Ellen F*cking Barkin, holy sh*t!”

The shooting of the Happyish pilot will take place in New York next month.
