Eight TV Characters Who We Hate to See Succeed or Fail

They’re arrogant when they win, and you hate to see them succeed.  But they’re heartbreaking when they lose. There is something magical about a character you would root against until he loses and then you just want him to get back on top  so you can root against him again.

1.  Hank Kingsley

Hey Now !  Hank Kingley is a talent less sycophant ass kisser that hides his insecurity by being a  egomaniac asshole. Larry Sanders is one of  the greatest shows in history no small thanks to Jeffry Tambor.

2.  David Brent

David Brent is a bullshitting cringe inducing  blowhard who needs to be fired . So why does it feel so bad when the guy gets exposed. Because Ricky Gervais is a genius. He makes you care about the weak bastard.

3.  Ted Baxter

Ted Baxter was a haircut with a deep voice and a smile when  Ron Burgandy was still shitting green . Truly one of the great characters of the 70’s.  You hated the guy until he failed and then you felt bad for him.

4.  Kenny Powers

This could be cheating because for some reason we love seeing this awful sadist torture the weak Stevie Jankowski.  Kenny  is cruel when he is up and pathetic when he is bad. He’s  everything we hate about sports.

5.  Michael Scott

Michael just uses his job as the manager of a regional paper company to fill his need for love and acceptance. The kind of boss that is shocked that people don’t want to work overtime and Sundays because this place is fun. He’s a moron.  But when he realizes he’s a dick, or that he’s screwed up, your heart breaks for him.  That is until the moment he gets out of it.

6.  Frank Gallagher

Frank Gallagher is the poster child for America’s great white slide. He  is an alcoholic drug addict who chooses to feed his addictions over his poor enabling children We’d still rather see the guy hustle a sucker and not go to jail ( where he belongs).

 7.  Buffalo Bill

In a short run TV series from the early 80’s Dabney Coleman played Buffalo Bill Bittenger a small time TV morning chat host who acted like Regis on the air but treated his staff with contempt. No matter how big an asshole the guy was you still wanted him to achieve his dream of network TV because living in Buffalo is too cruel for anyone.

8.  Archie Bunker

Racist, misogynistic, anti gay, a full service  bigot.  Too bad Archie wasn’t around today to have Fox News. He would have been in heaven. Still hated to see the guy lose and he always did.
