Eddie Izzard Doesn’t Know How To React To The Cosby Allegations

Eddie Izzard was asked about some of the things going on in the world of comedy, especially throughout the past year. One of the biggest stories of the year, is the sexual abuse accusations that continue to mount against Bill Cosby. Izzard told AP that the whole situation is perplexing. He said, “If it’s true, then, ‘Oh my God.’ And if it’s not true, then, ‘Oh my God.’ I don’t know where you go with either of those.”

He also said the allegations against a beloved American TV icon like Cosby reminded him of the sex scandals in England involving television personalities who were completely trusted by the public. In 2012, a year after his death, popular British TV presenter Jimmy Savile was accused in literally hundreds of complaints of sexual abuse. Many of the accusations came from minors that were supposed to benefit from all of Savile’s charity work.

Izzard added that despite the bad stuff this past year in comedy, there’s also plenty of good going on. “There’s negativity happening this year but comedians are going out and doing really interesting stuff all around the world.”

Eddie Izzard is currently adding to that “interesting” part. He’s in the process of shooting Sony PlayStation Network’s first original programming project, “Powers”. The action series is based on a graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. It revolves around two homicide detectives who handle cases involving super powered individuals. Izzard plays Wolfe, a leader with powers who’s been kept in prison to keep his abilities in check. The series is expected to premiere next year.
