Donald and Stephen Glover to Head FXX’s ‘Deadpool’ Animated Series

FOX announced two series greenlight moves on Wednesday, welcoming Craig Robinson and Dylan McDermott series to the network. Meanwhile sister network FXX has news of its own.  

It looks like the Merc with a Mouth is the new “It Girl” in town. It was announced earlier today that FXX will be bringing Marvel’s beloved Deadpool character to the network in a new animated series with two surprising showrunners: Donald and Stephen Glover.

Donald Glover is no stranger to comedy fans, having first made a name for himself as a member of the Derrick Comedy sketch group and later, as a writer on 30 Rock and as a co-star of the cult-classic NBC sitcom Community. His profile has risen significantly since then, having recently won himself a Golden Globe for his FX original series Atlanta (which he created, writes and stars in), as well as landing huge roles like that of Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Han Solo movie and Simba in The Lion King remake. Donald’s brother Stephen, however, is a fresh face in the industry, with the eight episodes of Atlanta he wrote being his only writing credits to date. Regardless of experience, it’s clear from Atlanta’s success that the two are a potent writing team, so this new project holds a lot of promise.

The show, which has been given a 10-episode order from FXX, has received the Marvel seal of approval, with Marvel’s Jim Chory and Jeph Loeb serving as executive producers alongside the brothers, who will act as writers, executive producers and showrunners. No voice actors have been announced yet, which begs the big question: Will Ryan Reynolds be involved? Reynolds’ love of the character has been well documented, so there’s certainly a good chance.

The show is expected to debut on FXX sometime in 2018.
