In courtroom papers just made public this week, Dr. Gwen Korovin, a laryngologist who performed the procedure that led to Joan Rivers death last summer had denied any wrongdoing. In her papers, Koroven flat out denies the allegations, denies that photos were taken and further states that she had been invited to perform the flexible endoscopy on Rivers and none of the doctors in the room objected to her being there.

According to the Daily Newsdr korovin, Korovin may be called “the patron saint of Broadway singers and actors” but a malpractice suit filed by Melissa Rivers claims that her negligence, along with negligence by doctors Lawrence Cohen and Renuka Bankulla led to Rivers’ death. The suit alleges that Dr. Korovin wasn’t authorized to practice at the Yorkville facility, and so should not have been in the room, and should never have performed two unauthorized laryngoscopies.  Rivers’ suit further alleges that Korovin posed for photos during the procedure and then fled the room when Joan went into arrest.

dr cohenDr. Cohen, the former director of the Yorkville Endoscopy Center has also denied any wrongdoing in his papers.  Cohens lawyers have served objections to questions Rivers’ legal team want him to answer during discovery, claiming the questions go to the heart of the matters in dispute and should be determined at trial. According to Page Six, some of the disputed questions include that “he allowed two unauthorized throat-scoping procedures to be performed, that he scoffed at an anesthesiologist’s warning that Rivers’ oxygen levels were repeatedly plummeting, and even that he took a souvenir cell phone snap of Rivers under sedation.”

The next court date in the matter is July 21.
