Dan Aykroyd Starts His Own Blues Brothers Record Label

Dan Aykroyd feels helping promote young blues artists is a “mission from God”. That was his statement as half of the legendary Blues Brothers announce he was starting his own record label along with his late partner John Belushi’s wife, Judy Belushi. “Blues Brothers Records” also includes famed record producer Don Was. Distribution for the new label will be handled by Was’ Blue Note Records.

Aykroyd told Rolling Stone, “The recorded music industry today presents huge challenges but also great opportunities. Judy and I are excited to partner with the master ear for talent Don Was and Blue Note Records in fulfilling the true ‘Mission From God’ — to find, develop and nurture emerging blues performers. After all, that’s where American music began in the first place and now it is in the hands of the next generation.”

Don Was said that it was the Blues Brothers who should be credited with giving the genre of music staying power. He said, “The incredible contribution of Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi towards keeping the blues alive cannot be overstated”.
