Comedian Michelle Wolf’s star continues to rise with the news today that she will shoot her first hour-long special with HBO this summer. What’s more, the special will be directed by none other than Neil Brennan, comic and former writer/co-creator of Comedy Central’s beloved Chappelle’s Show.
“What can I say, it’s HBO, it’s a dream. I’m mostly just trying not to get hit by a bus before I tape,” joked Wolf of the news.
The path to Wolf’s special has been unfolding for the past few years, as her comedic talents have garnered attention from folks around the industry. After performing stand-up on Late Night with Seth Meyers, she was tapped to become a writer there, eventually being promoted to writing supervisor. She later went on to get a job with The Daily Show with Trevor Noah last year, for which she writes and appears as an on-screen personality, and she also had a hand in creating the Comedy Central digital series Used People and Now Hiring.
“Michelle is one of the most inspired comics working today. She is smart, sharp and fiercely funny,” said HBO executive VP Nina Rosenstein. “We couldn’t be more excited to present her first stand-up special to our audience.”
Wolf will be taping the as-yet-unnamed special on Saturday, August 12th at New York’s Skirball Center.
