Craig T. Nelson Returns As Coach On NBC

“Coach” the popular 90s sitcom starring Craig T. Nelson which ran for 9 seasons on ABC, is getting another set of downs at NBC. The network has made a 13 on-air episode commitment to bring back the series just off of hearing the pitch. All four major broadcast networks were interested in the “Coach” revival which will once again star Nelson in his Emmy winning role as Coach Hayden Fox. According to Deadline, NBC aggressively went for the show even without a pilot being written yet.

In the updated “Coach”, the sitcom will be set in the present day, 18 years after the original finished its run. Coach Fox is retired, but takes an assistant job working with his now grown son who is the new head coach at an Ivy League school in Pennsylvania with a start up football program.

Craig T. Nelson already has ties to NBC. He’s spent the past 6 seasons starring in the NBC series “Parenthood”. So far, he’s the only actor attached to the new “Coach” project. If NBC is smart, Jerry Van Dyke’s phone should be ringing any minute.
