As part of our podcast sharing select archival episodes of ’s epic interview series Unmasked, this week we’re sharing a recent favorite– Unmasked from July, 2017 when Ron sat down with the creators and cast of one of our favorite comedy shows on television: Unmasked with HBO’s Vice Principals.

sat with an all star panel that featured  and . The captivating (and hilarious) hour shed some light onto the darkest comedy on television. Series creators Danny McBride and Jody Hill explained the genesis of the series over 12 years ago, why it took so long to come to fruition, and why they capped the series at two seasons, 18 episodes. You’ll also hear them tell stories about the Rough House crew, and what they have planned next.

As for the cast-  Kimberly Hebert Gregory talked about how she found the motivation for her character and why she enjoys playing a character on the edge, and everyone talked about fearlessness. During the hour, you’ll also get to hear Edi Patterson’s audition story and the improv which helped land her the part. The story definitely ranks among the greatest audition stories ever told, and Walton Goggins addressed the question of how they are able to keep pushing the show so far over the edge. “Our sense of humor is so fucked up, we don’t even feel like we’re pushing it.”

Towards the end of the hour, Bennington invited some of the audience members to ask questions– let’s just say, shit got weird.

If you watch the series, you don’t want to miss the opportunity to hear stories from the brilliant minds who both conceptualized and helped bring this ominous, unpredictable comedy to life. If you aren’t on board yet, listen to the hour and plan to start binging tonight while the rest of us watch the season two premiere. (Read more about the event here).
