Conan Played a Cheese Importer on Mexican Telenovela
Conan O’Brien is a terrific neighbor, internationally speaking. Inspired by the current state of the U.S.-Mexico relationship, TBS announced earlier that “Conan Without Borders” would be an hourlong special airing March 1st that would be shot in Mexico and have an entirely Mexican cast, staff and live audience. In preparation and promotion for that, Conan also filmed a guest appearance on the incredible-sounding telenovela “Mi adorable maldición” (“My Lovely Curse”).
In an interview on early morning Mexican talk show “Hoy” (“Today”), Conan cited his genuine love for watching telenovelas in America. While Conan appeared as an American dairy exporter on the show, the overall premise is that a beautiful young woman, Aurora, is ostracized because of a lunar-shaped birthmark on her skull that the midwife found. Not only does Aurora’s mother die in child birth, but her heartbroken father raises her far away from the townspeople who consider her an evil creature. When the original midwife identifies a now teenage Aurora, the entire village attacks her, but a boy her age, Rodrigo, defends her and the two obviously fall in love. And there’s a dairy exporting plot? Conan’s on to something.
Also, this heavily implies Conan O’Brien is fluent in Spanish, which is just an added bonus. Conan Without Borders airs on March 1.
