Chad Zummock wrote us to tell us he’s a friend of Amy Schumer’s and wanted to speak openly about the attacks on Amy Schumer.

Congrats Amy Schumer! You’re the new contestant on “Let’s take down the popular comedian everyone likes right now.” You did it! Congrats! Not only do you get to be a contestant to this nonsense, you officially now have jealous comedians not going to bat for you and ripping you behind your back because of all your success! Isn’t that great!? The ones who should be there for you right now out of all people. As we speak, people are looking to take you down at any cost. Internet trolls are digging and digging through everything you’ve done in the past or anything you posted on line while you were developing your comedic talents and hard-earned material. Don’t you worry Amy, even if you can honestly say “good luck finding something” they’ll find something. Anyone right now can turn anything into a column or a news article and get a ton of attention because you’re name is attached to it. Are you excited that this is the reward for all your hard work?

All those hours of writing, your endless hell gigs, sleeping on couches, driving across state lines going gig to gig. Having scumbag bar owners and bookers hit on you because you need to make $300 at a one-nighter in Cincinnati in front of 100 people who don’t even give a shit about “clever thoughts”? Or arguing with yet another club manager about getting your bonus when things were starting to turn around for you? Remember those days? The days where you feel like quitting and kept asking yourself, “Is this dream really all worth it?” While you’re staring at your bank balance online?

I noticed recently you were forced to apologize to feminist writer Martine Joelle McDonald for a joke you did years ago. “I used to date Hispanics but now I prefer consensual.” This is a silly joke, however, it is also officially hard-core ammunition for self-serving columnist and special-interest groups to make a name for themselves. Apparently your title “Comedian” was overlooked while articles were being written accusing you of being a racist. It doesn’t matter what you meant or how you said it, these people want to stomp you down just so they can get some notoriety and web hits. These people don’t realize when you probably told this joke a lot of people left the club that night not even remembering what joke it was. I bet those paying (or free ticket) customers and fans tried to tell that exact joke to their coworkers at work the following Monday and completely screwed it all up!

Customer: “We saw this comedian Amy Winehouse? or Amy Gaffigan? Wait, Amy Horowitz? Any way, she was funny as hell! She said something like she got raped by a Mexican! I forgot how it went but she was hilarious! We had a blast!– although our bill was like $86.55! Can you believe it? All we had were two drinks and some jalapeño poppers!! WTF!?”

Sorry Amy, I wish I could tell you that this nonsense is going to go away but it’s not! Unfortunately, the bigger you get, the bigger the target is on your back. Never mind that you did everything the right way to get where you’re at. Never mind your tireless hard work, or how you always treated other comedians of all levels with respect, paying it forward to the comics before you, looking after your friends and family, and never forgetting where you came from! None of this matters anymore. You know why? Because Dr. Stacey Patton from the Washington Post, (who has never seen you do standup) says you’re a racist now!!

I feel for you Amy Schumer. Even though your dreams are coming true people like Dr. Stacy Patton and feminist Martine Joelle McDonald are coming from you. Hopefully our comedy community will have your back and will continue supporting you instead of just piling on and hurting you like they’ve always done to their own in the past.

As a comedian who has been doing this for 11 years and takes great pride in bringing his own sheets to the comedy condos, I got your back! You’re a true comic and a good person who doesn’t deserve this bullshit right now. I think the whole comedy community should do the same because one day it might happen to us.
