Check Out the Trailer for Carl Reiner’s ‘If You’re Not in the Obit, Eat Breakfast’

Carl Reiner, the prolific director, writer and actor responsible for such classics as The Jerk, The Man with Two Brains, and Fatal Instinct, is a case study in kicking ass while being old. The 95 year old Hollywood legend  was honored, along with his son Rob Reiner, with a set of hand/footprints at the iconic Grumman’s Chinese Theatre back in March. A few weeks before that ceremony, Reiner took a header down a flight of stairs, a fall that would have been the end of most folks his age, and shook it off without a scratch. Whatever his secret is, Reiner is a shining example of how to enjoy your senior years, and now he’s exploring that longevity in a new HBO documentary called If You’re Not in the Obit, Eat Breakfast.

In the first official trailer for the film, Reiner lays out his morning routine: ”Every morning, I pick up my newspaper, get the obituary section, and see if I’m listed. If I’m not, I have my breakfast.”

We then see Reiner and an assortment of celebrities like Betty White, Dick Van Dyke, and Mel Brooks, as well as other centenarian and nonagenarians who live active lifestyles, doing everything from salsa dancing to marathon running. The film looks to be an interesting and inspiring examination of the lives of folks who have not only contributed, but continue to contribute, to American culture.

If You’re not in the Obit, Eat Breakfast is set to debut on HBO on Monday, June 5th at 8 p.m. You can check out the trailer below:
