Every Tuesday for the past 12 weeks we have been releasing one of our favorite episodes Ron Bennington’s epic interview series Unmasked from the archives. Our picks have come from different years in Unmasked’s 11 year history, as recent as 2015 and as far back as 2009 and the hours we’ve released include Big Jay Oakerson, Jim Norton, Ali Wong, Bonnie McFarlane, Jim Jefferies, Reggie Watts, Billy Connolly and more.
Today, we’re doing something we’ve never been able to do before- release a brand new, just recorded Unmasked episode with one of our favorite comedians, Nick Di Paolo. Nick is one of the funniest comedians in New York City. Hailing from the Boston comedy scene, Di Paolo’s comedy combines the best of both cities- raw, relentlessly honest, and ferociously funny. Nick doesn’t give a shit about political correctness or if you don’t like his opinions, and he is a killer on stage.
He has a brand new hour, Inflammatory, out on Seeso today and it’s 100% everything you love about Nick Di Paolo. Nick taped an episode of Unmasked at The Stand comedy club in New York City in front of a standing room only audience. It was one of the funniest hour interviews we’ve ever heard. From Nick’s uncomfortable relationship with a brand new shirt he bought for the interview, to Nick firing off his opinions, this is already one of our favorite hours of the entire Unmasked series.
Throughout the hour, Di Paolo takes shots at everyone and everything so if you think of yourself as a fragile snowflake you might not enjoy this hour, but everyone else will, whether you agree with Nick politically or not. During the hour, Bennington and Di Paolo riff on political topics, of course- Trump, Hillary, de Blasio, election night, the Barron Trump controversy- it’s all in there, and Nick also talks about a few less controversial things- like how his wife saw him on television and decided she was going to marry him within minutes, working with some of the greatest living actors on Inside Amy Schumer’s 12 Angry Men parody and showing up at Louis C.K.’s house to talk about Horace and Pete and finding Alan Alda, Steve Buscemi, and Edie Falco there. The hour is one of the fastest hours you’ll hear with so many great stories. It’s the perfect companion to Di Paolo’s new Seeso hour.
Di Paolo has appeared on the Tonight Show, Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and Conan. He also recently had a recurring role on Louis C.K.’s Horace and Pete, and appeared in several episodes of Louie on FX, Lucky Louie on HBO, Inside Amy Schumer on Comedy Central, Colin Quinn’s Cop Show, several Comedy Central roasts, and he co-hosted Shorties Watchin’ Shorties with Patrice O’Neal, and the Nick and Artie Show. He’s also an Emmy nominated writer, and hosts the Nick Di Paolo podcast on the Riotcast network. Nick has had three half hour specials on Comedy Central, and two hour specials including one that aired on Showtime. His new hour, appropriately named Inflammatory, debuts on Seeso today, February 16, 2017.
The Unmasked series which began in 2008 with a brilliant hour with Patrice O’Neal, has taped nearly 200 episodes since, documenting the careers of the most interesting comedy writers, directors, filmmakers, actors, screenwriters, satirists, political comedians, comedic musicians and of course, stand up comedians in the business. It is a veritable archive of the greatest comedy of our time. Past Unmasked guests have included Joan Rivers, Bob Newhart, Amy Schumer, Dan Aykroyd, Simon Pegg, Tracy Morgan, Paul Feig, Jim Jefferies, Gilbert Gottfried, Bobcat Goldthwait, Louis C.K., David Brenner, Brian Regan, Patrice O’Neal and over 150 more comedy greats.
