Every Tuesday for the past 12 weeks, we have been releasing our favorite episodes of Ron Bennington’s epic interview series Unmasked. This week, two very special bonus episodes. Yesterday, we released a brand new hour with Nick Di Paolo, and today we’re releasing the brand new episode of Unmasked recorded with the comedy giants behind HBO’s new series, Crashing– Judd Apatow, Artie Lange, and Pete Holmes.
Just four days ago on February 13th, the principals of Crashing– Apatow, Artie and Pete Holmes sat down with Ron Bennington in SiriusXM’s famed Fishbowl studio, to tape an episode of Unmasked, and talk about their new series.
HBO’s Crashing is our new favorite comedy series that takes place within a comedy scene. The series is created by, written by and stars Pete Holmes, and it’s very much based upon Pete’s real life experiences and a very real look at the comedy scene in New York City. Hardcore comedy fans will adore this show, that’s full of inside jokes, and references, and great cameos and guest-starring roles from all the people you know and love if you have any familiarity with stand-up in NYC. For those who don’t know about or simply don’t care about the inside baseball stuff, the show is flat out funny. Judd Apatow produced and directed, and Artie Lange not only co-stars in the series, but also contributed real life stories to the show’s story arc.
The Unmasked hour is an incredible look behind the scenes of the making of the series, and it’s also a revealing look at the business of stand-up comedy with each of the guys telling stories about their own career arcs. Apatow talks about being at the Improv in 1986, and Artie has a story about seeing Dave Attell at the Cellar for the first time, and everyone shares stories about being heckled, getting snubbed, and how hard it is to get started in stand-up. Pete talks about the real world nightmare that forms the basis of Crashing’s storyline and how much is true versus embellishment. The stories are phenomenal.
Crashing is the first series about stand-up that focuses on the early years- when it’s difficult and you bomb and things go badly. And as Pete points out– you tell the stories that are disastrous, not the good ones. This is an hour about all the disastrous stories that comedy fans love to hear.
Crashing debuts in just two days, on Sunday, February 19th on HBO and you will be hooked from episode one. In the meantime, download the Unmasked hour, and share it with anyone who loves comedy.
And because we’re so excited about Crashing, we’re giving away a poster from this episode of Unmasked, signed by Judd Apatow, Artie Lange and Pete Holmes. It’s a one of a kind collectors item and all you have to do to get in the running, is fill out the form below, and listen to Unmasked on iTunes.
