“Black-ish” Creator Doing “Good Times” Movie

goodtimes__130312164903Kenya Barris has proven he can create a hit sitcom with ABC’s “Black-ish”. Now Sony wants him to turn a sitcom from the 70s into a hit movie. Barris will be directing a film version of the Norman Lear comedy series “Good Times”. The original sitcom was a spin-off off of another Lear hit, “Maude”. It starred Esther Rolle and John Amos as parents struggling to make ends meet while raising their kids in the projects of Chicago. The sitcom also turned Jimmie Walker into a television superstar. He played J.J. on the series and became know for his catchphrase, “Dyn-o-mite!”.

There will be one change from the sitcom to the film for Kenya Barris. In the movie, the family will be living in the turbulent 60s instead of the 70s according to Deadline. The project has been in the works for two years now and with Kenya Barris being brought on board, it may move a little quicker. No casting has been announced for the film version of “Good Times” yet.
