Alejandro G. Inarritu was the big winner for his film “Birdman” at the 67th annual Directors Guild of America awards. If history is any indicator, this makes the dark comedy look like a lock for an Academy Award win for Best Picture. According to the Hollywood Reporter, out of the 67 years, the DGAs have been given out, only 7 of those winners didn’t go on to grab the Oscar.

“Birdmand” has already won the Producers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild top awards, but it lost the Golden Globe to Wes Anderson’s “The Grand Budapest Hotel”. The Wes Anderson comedy was nominated for the DGA along with “American Sniper”, “Boyhood” and “The Imitation Game”.

Also in comedy, Amazon Studios continues to fill its trophy case for “Transparent” for its first season. Jill Soloway won the DGA comedy series award for Amazon’s series starring Jeffrey Tambor.
