Bill Hader Watched Conan’s Couch Catch Fire at Conan’s Christmas Party

Bill Hader was on Conan Monday night. He’s out promoting the Angry Birds movie, not that it needs any promotion, this thing is a runaway train. But he did tell a great story about being at Conan’s house last December.

Hader was at Conan’s Christmas Party- a who’s who of comedy as you can imagine. But what Hader remembers most was a big firepit, a big cushy couch, and a windy night. Eventually, as you may have already guessed, the couch caught fire, but Hader was too mesmerized by the whole thing to do anything about it. He then proceeded to tell a story that was either the best story anyone’s told on Late Night all month, or completely made up, because it sounded like a set up for an impressions-based sketch of what might have happened. Hader proceeded to explain how several guests reacted to the 15 foot high couch fire. He said, using his best Adam Sandler voice, that Adam Sandler called out “hey Conan, your couch is on fire, buddy.” He mimic’ed Marty Short saying “throw it in the pool” dramatically, and he says Conan’s reaction was to say “oh!….” with a long pause after it. After a few beats, he said Conan tried to take Martin Short’s advice and drag it to the pool, but it was ultimately Conan’s wife Liza who saved the day, grabbed a fire extinguisher, ran over, and easily put out the fire. When it was out she said done.

Go see Angry Birds, in theaters now.
