Bill Hader Heading to HBO

One half of the chameleonic “Documentary Now!” and amazing character actor Bill Hader landed an HBO show for 2018 that might as well be his own personal playground. In “Barry”, Hader will write, (occasionally) direct and star as the titular hitman who follows his target to a theater class that could very well change his life when he gets bit by that acting bug.

Hader’s range has been unfurling to viewers for years now; first as an SNL cast member, then in his semi-serious and totally dazzling role in “The Skeleton Twins” and obviously in all of “Documentary Now!”’s incarnations. That said, it’s less of a surprise and more of a treat that Hader would take on a professionally violently man, in whatever spin on that trope “Barry” takes.

Cast regulars will include Stephen Root (HBO’s “All the Way”), Sarah Goldberg (“Hindsight”), Glenn Fleshler (HBO’s “True Detective”), Anthony Carrigan (“Gotham”) and Henry Winkler (“Arrested Development”) and production will begin on the eight-episode season in Los Angeles this upcoming Spring. Alec Berg (“Silicon Valley”) is also a co-creator, executive producer and writer.
