Bill Cosby: Fires Old Lawyer, Hires New
Bill Cosby has changed up his legal strategy yet again, firing his main lawyer, and hiring a new lawyer from Liner LLP to tackle the civil charges leveled against him. Attorney Angela Agrusa came out swinging today with a statement that asserts that Cosby is being unfairly judged in the court of public opinion without having had his day in an actual courtroom.
“Trying Mr. Cosby in a court of public opinion as imbalanced media coverage promotes, runs directly counter to our judicial systems most fundamental guarantees of fairness under the law,” Agrusa said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “Those, like Mr. Cosby, who face this sort of scrutiny without having had their day in court need and deserve representation to ensure that justice does not yield to news cycles and soundbites. Mr. Cosby seeks a just resolution to the accusations leveled against him, and as lawyers experienced in complex, high-profile matters, we will work to safeguard his rights to the fullest extent in that pursuit.”
Cosby is currently facing a slew of civil and criminal charges that are so numerous and so widespread across the U.S. that it’s hard to even keep track of them all. As of now, nearly 60 women have accused the once-beloved comedian of sexually assaulting them, the vast majority saying that drugs were used to incapacitate them so that Cosby could violate them while they were unconscious. While he hasn’t been convicted of anything as of yet, the discussion across social media since these accusations started pouring in has largely been centered around his assumed guilt.
