Bill Burr’s Animated Series ‘F is for Family’ Renewed!

Watch the Trailer For Bill Burr’s F Is For Family

Netflix has announced that they will be renewing their original animated comedy F is for Family for a second season. The show, which was created by comedy legend Bill Burr and The Simpsons writer Michael Price, is loosely based on the stand up act and life experiences of Burr.

F is for Family follows the day to day life of the Murphy family as they deal with the black cloud that is patriarch Frank Murphy. Frank is a curmudgeonly Irish-American Korean War veteran who finds a way to complain about anything and everything, often breaking into angry rants on the minutia of life and lashing out at whoever happens to be around him (more often than not, his wife or kids.) Fans of Burr’s Monday Morning Podcast or his stand up will recognize the similarities between Frank Murphy and Burr right away, as they both share a hilarious penchant for being set off by the most mundane of topics, from sports to Yoko Ono and everything in between.

Burr announced that the show’s renewal was “officially official” on Twitter with a series of clips from the first season, featuring some of Frank’s best f-bombs perfectly synced to the tune of Offenbach’s “Infernal Galop.” It perfectly captures the essence of the show (and Burr’s famously righteous anger;) check it out:

The first season, which debuted on December 18th, 2015, consisted of six episodes and received mostly positive reviews. Netflix is giving the show a little more room to grow, as the second season will be ten episodes long. Netflix is going all in this year, dumping Oprah-money into their original series as they continue to grow their brand. BoJack Horseman, another popular animated comedy, was recently renewed for a second season, and the second season of beloved The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt premiered just yesterday. Add to that the new Degrassi: Next Class, Timothy Olyphant/Drew Barrymore production Santa Clarita Diet, The Ranch, and Joe Swanberg’s Easy, and it’s clear that Netflix is deathly serious about not just being a hosting service, but also a juggernaut content producer. Between shows like Kimmy Schmidt, Narcos, and Orange is the New Black, it’s beginning to look like Netflix can do no wrong when it comes to their own original series.

A premiere date for the second season has not yet been announced, so eager fans will just have to rewatch the first season on repeat until then. There are certainly worse fates.
