In the journal Violence Against Women, it was found that in the shelters that collect this data, as many as 48% of the women delayed leaving their abusers because it meant leaving their pets. About 3% of the shelters around the country allow women to take their pets with them. Veterinarians should start throwing cots into the kennels to help out humans for once.
