‘Animals.’ Gets a Third Season at HBO

This week, HBO aired the season finale of HBO’s irreverent animated anthology series Animals. The show is a bit of a sleeper hit, not necessarily pulling in huge attention from audiences or big ad campaigns from HBO. Despite all that, the show has found itself a loyal core fan base, and the network has responded in kind, announcing today that the show has been renewed for a third season.

Animals. was created by Phil Matarese and Mike Luciano, with animation provided by Dan Harmon’s Starburns Industries, which also does the animation for Harmon’s beloved Adult Swim show Rick and Morty. The show tells the story of various animals living in New York City, from sewer rats and pigeons to aging bedbugs and pet-shop turtles as they go about their often mundane lives and ordinary conversations that, unsurprisingly, make them seem a lot like us. The characters are voiced by a huge, ever-changing cast of guest actors that includes Jonah Hill, Nick Kroll, Killer Mike, Andy Dick, Dan Harmon, Jon Lovitz, Chelsea Peretti, Ice-T, Whoopi Goldberg, Judy Greer, Marlon Wayans, Wanda Sykes, Marc Maron, Adam Pally and many, many more.

Here’s what Matarese and Luciano had to say about the news:
