Andy Samberg Explains His HBO Special Comedy Mockumentary Doc Sports Event on Kimmel

Andy Samberg showed up in a bubble on Kimmel to promote his HBO Special Comedy Mockumentary Doc Sports Event “7 Days in Hell.”  He wrote “7 Days in Hell” with former summer campmate Murray Miller (who also writes for Girls).  Inspired by a Wimbledon match that went on for three days, Andy and Murray wrote the story of a match that never ended, pitched it to HBO and everyone said great, let’s do this.

Kimmel calls it hilariously funny.  Andy explained where the idea came from to cast Game of Throne’s Kit Harrington as Samberg’s rival.  “Well I’m sort of a like Agassi bad boy of tennis mixed with McEnroe mixed with Borg guy American. And Kit’s character is like a british Andy Murray the weight of England on his shoulders kind of a Brit guy.  We needed somebody relatively fit within this age bracket so we googled British actors, age bracket, and a bunch of really cool dudes came up….” and Kit got the part.

Oh right, the bubble.  Samberg came out in a self contained bubble because he has the flu but still wanted to promote the show, and well, let’s be honest.  Kimmel thinks he’s icky.

Seven Days in Hell Premieres July 11, only on HBO.
