Amy Schumer Still Unstoppable After Hosting SNL

America has loved the shit out of Amy Schumer this year, and after her first time hosting SNL last night, they love her even more.

Schumer’s meteoric rise definitely didn’t “all come crashing down” last night as predicted by Vanessa Bayer in a really funny promo, quite the contrary. Social media reaction to Schumer on SNL was gigantic right from the monologue. There were critics– some were unhappy that she used material she’s been performing on tour, others thought some of her monologue material reminded them too much of the monologue that got Martin Lawrence banned from SNL– but overall the conclusion on Social Media last night was that Amy Schumer is still America’s most twisted sweetheart.

Schumer’s monologue was smart, funny and 100% Schumer, which means, of course, the subject of vaginas came up often, in some far ranging contexts. For example, in describing the uncomfortable task of bathing a baby, or explaining what it’s like meeting Bradley Cooper. She also talked about Hillary Clinton, and the Kardashians, and being hacked.

Amy appeared in a really brilliant digital short parodying America’s love for guns, which will undoubtably be the most passed around sketch Sunday and Monday, and you should definitely watch that.  The other digital short– about a hands free selfie stick was another highlight of the show, but Schumer’s best and funniest performance of the night was a sketch where she plays a bartender with a strong personality who crashes a baby shower with a friend.

Schumer also performed some sketches about being a dirty horny algebra teacher trying to get freak nasty with one of her students, a sketch playing Mary Todd Lincoln, and a bit about being an airline stewardess, all funny.  Did SNL make the best use of her talents? Probably not, but it’s tough to live up to Amy’s performances on Inside Amy Schumer, with her own team who know how to write specifically for her.

Amy’s HBO special, which was filmed this summer at Harlem’s famed Apollo Theater premieres next Saturday night. Let the Amy Train continue!
