Fan Who Caused Amy Schumer To Ban Selfies Speaks Out

Over the weekend, comedian Amy Schumer announced she is done taking selfies with fans after an incident with a fan in Greenville soured her on fan photos. But if you’re a fan and hoping to one day get a photo with Schumer, don’t worry, that was days ago.  She’s now saying she’ll still take pics with nice people.

Schumer broke the news that she was done with selfies with an instagram photo post over the weekend, taken in Greenville, SC. The photo looks like a positive fan interaction at first glance. She shows a young man, smiling giving a thumbs up, obviously happy to be meeting the comedy super celeb. The caption to the photo tells a different story, however. Schumer wrote “This guy in front of his family just ran up next to me scared the shit out of me. Put a camera in my face,” she wrote. Schumer said she asked him to stop and claims he said “no it’s America and we paid for you” in front of his young daughter. Amy continued, “I was saying stop and no. Great message to your kid. Yes legally you are allowed to take a picture of me. But I was asking you to stop and saying no.”

The upshot of the incident– because of this smiling thumbs up man, Amy wrote, “I will not take picture with people anymore and it’s because of this dude in Greenville.”

She later backed down from her declaration, saying on Twitter that she will take photos with “nice” people. But she still sounded pretty pissed saying “I’ll still take pictures with nice people when I choose to if it’s a good time for that. But I don’t owe you anything. So don’t take if I say no.”

Meanwhile, the aggressive fan who caused Amy to go off, is speaking out today. His name is Leslie Brewer and he contacted FOX Carolina to explain his side of the story. He posted the video he took during the ‘incident’ on his instagram with the caption “Amy schumer just got mad at me and cussed me out lmao!!! Awesome.” You can see Amy behind him in the video, saying “Can you delete that?” “I did it in a non-threatening way,” Brewer told Fox Carolina. “She says I got all up in her face, and it was completely different from the video.”

Brewer also told the news station that she told him she was going to share his picture with four million followers.
