Amazon Studios Pilot Season: It’s Time To Watch And Choose and the Stakes are Higher Than Ever

Amazon Studios is coming off a big Golden Globes win for its original series “Transparent” which was name Best Comedy Series. Now Amazon is going into its first pilot season of 2015 and they wants to hear your feedback on its possible new series(es).  If you’ve never paid attention to Amazon Pilots before, the idea is you get to watch all the pilots and you get to vote and give feedback about which ones should become series.

All the pilots will be available for a limited time at Amazon.com, and they’re free for everyone.  As always, there are comedies in the running.  Past Amazon pilots that went to series include Alpha House starring John Goodman, Betas with John Daly, Transparent starring Jeffrey Tambor, and Mozart in the Jungle, with Malcolm McDowell and Bernadette Peters.

In the Amazon comedy department, there are three new pilots available to watch.

down dogDown Dog. This sitcom is about a guy in his late 30s who has been able to coast through life either thanks to his parents or his girlfriends. His gig of teaching yoga to California trophy wives is now gone because his current girlfriend who happens to own the yoga studio has broken up with him. He’s now finding life is more complicated when someone else isn’t footing the bills. Down Dog stars Josh Casaubon, Paget Brewster, Will Greenberg and Kris Kristofferson.

Mad Dogs. Amazon has a thing for comedies with “Dog” in the title. This dark comedy series is based on a UK TV hit. It features a group of 40 something guys who get back together and they’re all at a decision point in their lives. To make things worse, their reunion trip becomes filled with lies, deceit and even murder. It stars Steve Zahn, Billy Zane, Romany Malco, Ben Chaplin and Michael Imperioli.

salem rogersSalem Rogers. Leslie Bibb stars as the title character in a new comedy about a former super model who’s reemerging into society after a 10 year stay at rehab. She wants to reclaim her glamorous life, so she calls on her former assistant played by Rachel Dratch, who has moved on to become a success in the self-help book industry.

 

Other series that are under consideration in Amazon’s first pilot season of 2015 include:

Cocked, a family drama starring Sam Trammell from “True Blood” with Brian Dennehy and Jason Lee, The Man in the High Castle, an alternate reality adventure series showing what the world would be like if the Allies lost World War II to the Axis Powers, Point of Honor,  a Civil War drama, and The New Yorker Presents which brings the literary magazine to life.
