Albert Brooks will be doing another dramatic role in an upcoming film about the NFL and the problems coming from player concussions.

The untitled film from Sony Pictures stars Will Smith and Alec Baldwin. It’s based on the 2009 GQ article “Game Brain” written by Jeanne Marie Laskas. Smith plays Dr. Bennet Omalu, a forensic neuropathologist who first discovers CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) in players, the degenerative disorder that occurs from regular damage to the brain. This is the disease that Junior Seau was diagnosed with after his suicide.

Brooks will play Cyril Wecht, the chief forensic pathologist who encourages Omalu to go forward with his CTE findings in order to help NFL players.

Variety compares the project to the whistleblower film “The Insider” which exposed secrets about the tobacco industry. The NFL concussion film will be written and directed by Peter Landesman (Parkland) and Ridley Scott is on board as a producer.
