Wednesday night on Conan, Al Madrigal talked about one of the craziest corporate gigs he ever did.  “I got to roast the NFL owners before the Super Bowl,” he said. “I had none of the athletes, just the billionaires.”  It’s hard to even imagine roasting some of the richest men in the world, with only those men as your audience. Maybe if the players had been there, or even some fans, it could have been fun to take down the big bosses, but in a room with 20 or so owners? Impossible.

Madrigal said it was one of the toughest gigs imaginable, roasting billionaires, none of whom were going to laugh. Coming up with material was tough, he said. “They don’t drive. What do you talk to them about? Don’t you hate when your cook and pilot are in cahoots?” One of the owners couldn’t make it because his yacht struck a coral reef. These are not people with relatable problems.

He says he got heckled by Jerry Jones, who shouted out “don’t do it!” when Madrigal started to make a Jones joke.  Of course, Al did it and survived, but you can’t feel great about a gig when people in the audience tell you things like “you know this was an impossible gig, right?”
