The 5: New Audio Comedy Series Covers Clubs Across the US, Here Are 5 Favorite Moments

One of our favorite ways to enjoy comedy is to discover the next wave in up and coming comics. If you’re a hard core comedy fan, you already know and love the headliners, but when you get to hear someone for the first time, someone you hadn’t been familiar with before and find out that they are being funny in a new way- that’s real excitement. Over the past five years, we’ve felt that way about so many local New York comics. Finding those new younger comics to love outside of your home city isn’t easy, but Audible just launched a new show as part of its Comedy Channel debut that can really help.

Limelight is a new audio on demand series, that takes you to comedy clubs around the country, and gives you a chance to hear some of the up and coming comics who are on the road across America in clubs you don’t normally get the chance to visit. Visit clubs like The Hollywood Improv, Go Bananas in Cincinnati Ohio, the Comic Strip Live in New York City, the Laughing Skull Lounge in Atlanta, and Side Splitters in Tampa to name a few, to hear from comedians you might not know yet and a few headliners thrown in to mix it up. Each episode is helmed by a very familiar headliner, and themed around a single topic.

We picked five of our favorite Limelight episodes as part of our week long partnership with Audible celebrating the Comedy Channel’s official launch. Find your own by downloading the Audible app, heading over to Channels, and clicking on Limelight. Audible’s new on demand Channels are free for Audible members, Amazon Prime subscribers, or sign up for just $4.95 per month.

Here are our five favorite moments from the hosts of Limelight, and our five favorite episodes.

tj-miller

1. T.J. Miller on Cluelessness

Introducing himself as the star of Yogi Bear 3D, T.J. Miller helms an excellent episode about “Cluelessness-es”.  Miller of course, you also know from Silicon Valley, Deadpool and from just being one of the funniest people  on the planet. This episode also features comedy from Tommy Johnagin, who we already adore, from the infamous Comedy Works comedy club in Denver. You’ll also hear from some comics we heard for the first time, like Amy Anderson at Rooster T. Feathers in Sunnyvale California, Auggie Smith at the Skyline Comedy Cafe in Appleton, Wisconsin, and Andy Gold on stage at Wiseguys in Salt Lake City, Utah all talking about cluelessness. As T.J. says, you’re already overwhelmed with everything else in your life, so he’s keeping things simple.

gilbert

2. Gilbert Gottfried Puts Safety First

When you’re talking about safety, who else would you want to be your guide but Gilbert Gottfried? Gilbert not only introduces four great comedians, but he also provides you with some genuine safety tips. He has some great advice about how to be safe in the bathtub, for example, and you’ll love his sex safety tips. Gilbert introduces Andy Woodhull at Go Bananas in Cincinnati, Ohio, Vince Carone at Riddles Comedy Club in Alsip, Illinois, Mia Jackson live on stage at the Laughing Skull Lounge in Atlanta, Georgia, Erin Foley (fun fact, she was in Almost Famous) from the Hollywood Improv, and the aforementioned Tommy Johnagin, this time at the Funny Bone in St. Louis, Missouri.

eddie

3. Eddie Pepitone on Pride

Everyone who loves comedy and everyone in comedy considers Eddie Pepitone to be one of the best comedians working today. Even Eddie considers himself the world’s best comedian. Eddie takes on the topic of pride and reminds you that the falleth goeth beforeth Pride, so get rid of it. Eddie introduces a killer lineup and reminds you why you should stop talking shit about things. We love Amy Miller and so we were excited to hear her in this episode, and she’s performing from Doc’s Lab in San Francisco and has a great take on what it means to be a trophy girlfriend. You’ll also hear from Maronzio Vance at the Punch Line in San Francisco, and he has become a new favorite after hearing him on Limelight. He’s talking about why pride caused him to be gay for five minutes at a Foot Locker. More great bits from Zoltan Kaszas at the Mad House comedy club in San Diego, and Patrick Keane at the Skyline in Appleton, Wisconsin.

sklar

4. Sklar Brothers Explain Failure

Want to double your fun, check out this episode from the Sklar Brothers. They’re sick of people wanting two of them for the price of one, you cheap bastards. They’re thrilled to be chosen to host the show about failure, and have something to say about Tara Reid, Sharknado, and Pyramid Schemes to build Pyramids. The Sklars introduce three great comics including Michael Palascak at Zanies in Chicago, Joey Devine at Doc’s Lab in San Francisco and Collin Moulton at Side Splitters in Tampa.

scovel

5. Rory Scovel Will School You

Rory Scovel introduces his episode about School in character as a preacher. He is ready to school you about your sinner’s lifestyle, and has some harsh words for the days of the week. We love Rory, and we also love Tom Segura who you will hear performing at the Acme Comedy Company in Minneapolis. Maronzio Vance is back, and he’s at the Punch Line in San Francisco, explaining the time he had to school a woman working at a mall kiosk who dissed him when he was trying to be nice. If there’s a funnier bit about kiosks, we’ve never heard it. Chris Mata, at the Rivercenter Comedy Club in San Antonio, Texas has a killer story about the time he had to show his girlfriend’s son who is the boss.
