HLN Cancels Game Show “Heads Up!” Before It Airs

CNN sister network HLN has cancelled plans to air their game show “Heads Up!” despite having already shot 65 episodes of the show.

The show was hosted by comedian/actress Loni Love and was supposed to air Monday through Friday. “Heads Up!” was based on the popular game that talk show host Ellen Degeneres plays with her audience on her self-titled show. The segment has spawned a hugely popular app, but apparently didn’t fit into the formula of scheduling that HLN’s Ken Jautz had envisioned for the network.

The network has seen some significant changes in the last few years. CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker elected to take the network in a new direction, essentially using it as an overflow for the excess of nonfiction content that had been produced for CNN. Some executives from CNN have stepped in to alter the network’s programming, which in turn has scared some HLN program directors off.

Simply put, the overall tone of HLN’s programming is in flux, and “Heads Up!” might not be the only show to get the axe. The show may have been canned by HLN, but that doesn’t mean it’s dead and buried. Production company Telepictures could shop the show around to other networks or even streaming services if they wish. With 65 episodes already wrapped, it seems it’d be a shame not to at least try to get the show to see the light of day.
