Jim Norton and Sherrod Small to Guest on TruTV’s Comedy Competition Show, Comedy KnockOut
truTV’s Spring lineup was announced with two new and two returning series.
Comedy battles/showdown/roast battles have been popping up in scenes all over the country, so it is no surprise the format is getting a test run on TV. The newest tv comedy battle, Comedy Knockout, has announced that their first guest contestants will be Jim Norton, Sherrod Small, Kevin Barnett and Jamie Lee. The concept for the new series by Mo Mandel pits comedians against each other in a series of fast-paced challenges, with the audience having sole discretion to decide who is the funniest person in the room.
In each of the 10 half-hour episodes, host Damien Lemon (Guy Code) sends three comics into a battle of high stakes comedic gameplay. With points doled out based on the audience’s applause, it’s all about one-upmanship as competitors attempt to land massive comedy blows and whip the rowdy crowd into a frenzy of raucous laughter. The whole time, the comedians throw roast-like, rapid-fire jabs at each other to knock their opponents off balance. Every show ends with one comedian crowned champion, one eliminated and one ultimately forced to face the crowd and apologize for going down in shameful defeat. Comedy Knockout will premiere April 21, at 10:30pm.
TruTV is also getting into the documentary game. Ever wonder if comedy movies would ever get the Behind the Music and treatment? truTV’s comedy-centric documentary anthology series TruInside plans to delve into the untold tales behind comedy icons – the films, clubs, and performers – that have kept audiences laughing for decades
The ten episode first season will dive head first into the who/what/why and where of such iconic comedy films as Airplane!, Election, Bridesmaids, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Jerk, Tommy Boy, Bull Durham and Heathers. Legendary comedic institutions The Groundlings and The Comedy Cellar will also get the up close and personal examination promised from truInside and shine light on what life was like in the formative years of some of America’s comedic breeding grounds. Expect interviews with David and Jerry Zucker, Carl Reiner, Maya Rudolph, Robert Hays, Amy Heckerling, Weird Al Yankovic, Judge Reinhold , Michael Eisner and many others are planned. truInside premieres on Monday February 29th at 10pm.
truTV also announced that the brand new show Late Night Snack, a series that will curate digital shorts, will debut on March 3 at 11pm. Returning series Hack My Life and The Carbonaro Effect debut their second seasons on March 29th at 10pm, and March 23rd at 10pm.
