Please tell me why the working class is lucky to see 70-100k after working 5 years at 40-60k, and we teach, build, protect, serve, care for, and transport the bulk of the 'people' in this world.

What exactly do they do? No, I mean specifically. Thinking, writing, speaking for the people pays more then hard labor for the people?

Why?

The $869,000 is the median net worth not income.   I'm not going to defend congress but having 869,000 dollars and making that every year is very different.   I'm actually surprised how many are broke dick too.

I don't care what profession you hold, but there should be some sort of a test you must pass before you can be considered eligible.  I know that would not be constitutional, but an amendment could solve that problem.  Laws do not have to be overly complicated, but because we've had so much time with lawyers doing the drafting, they have become unnecessarily complex.  One of the biggest problems is trying to fix poorly crafted laws that end up ensnaring people they were not intended to ensnare.  Simplification should be the goal.  The tax code comes to mind as a plcae to start.

@BruceCownian I take offense, I have dug a few ditches in my day and I hold several advanced degrees.

@BruceCownianThat's assuming a lot about ditch diggers and gas station attendants.  But if we did elect them what would the likes of Louie Gohmert and Michelle Bachman end up doing?

@BruceCownian But that is a large part of the problem and a major reason why a bill addressing issue "a" has sections dealing with issues"p through z."

Not to mention that number is not even correct.  The median net worth for Representatives is $896,000, and for Senators it is $2.5 million.  They don't actually do a median for all Congressmen, although I'm sure the math wouldn't be too difficult.

@brushmonkey @BruceCownian It's also making the incorrect assumption that lawyers and business men give a fuck about the law and the economy beyond their own personal gain.
