A Millennial On Why We Hate Millennials

Nobody likes Millenials. TIME magazine even dedicated their June 2013 cover to them: “The ME ME ME Generation: Millennials are lazy, entitled narcissists who still live with their parents.” Can a whole generation really “lack the kind of empathy that allows them to feel concerned for others” as the article suggests? Take a break from asking those darned kids to get off your lawn and check out the infographic below about the generation everyone loves to hate.

Whine whine whine - People my grandparents' age (those born around 1900's) face horrible times as well - did you forget the Depression and WWII - yet look what they did.  They didn't expect anyone to give it to them; they worked hard for what they had; and they didn't WHINE.  Sorry, but the millenials are a bunch of narcissistic brats with inflated views of themselves which results from their parents raising them to believe everyone deserves a trophy and noone is a loser.  Social-engineering liberals are doing nothing but diluting the qualities that made our country great:  perseverence, hardwork, and more.

They are just a boring, dorky and predictable generation.  They've managed to ruin movies (how many comic book movies do we have to see?), music and television.  Next up will be professional sports.  They are the only generation that has managed to not scare the shit out of the previous generation.  And they are the biggest ass-kissing generation of all time.

They all wear pajama pants in public.  Nobody from the 1940s would dare leave their homes without proper trousers or skirts on.  Fuck the millenials.  English cigarettes.

So its ok to classify and stereotype a whole generation, but if you were to replace "Millenials" or the "older generation" in this graphic with "whites", "blacks", or "gays" this would probably be considered some form of hatespeech.

Every generation thinks they are the pinnacle of society ! Everything being said is just repeating what was said by every preceding generation . No one remembers what their fathers and grandfather's' generation said ! There are people that can't believe that the world will continue without them . They've made no significant impact and spend their time remembering " the good ole days " . And they can't wait to tell you about them . There are fewer days ahead than there are behind and no one cares about what they have to say ! So they criticise the generations before for being backwards and the next generation for bringing the end of society ! Now talk to someone that is optimistic . They accept their time as just another chapter in the human story . Their stories are interesting and informative and they don't judge the past or the future . Absolutely nothing new here ! Just the same dumb bullshit that makes these whiners so intolerable !

As a twenty-two year old who has graduated college and is in MBA School, the characterizations of this generation are one hundred percent accurate.  Molly's disdain for the prior generation and defense of the so-called Millennals stands on its on as an indictment of us.  As for the description of us as: entitled, self adsorbed, tech obsessed and lazy is also correct of us as a whole.  I myself have never had a real job past the age of seventeen, and am extraordinarily apathetic.  I know we all want to get to the top, but we young people want to start there while cursing those who enabled our comfortable upbringing.  I do not curse those who came before; (other than the hippies whose parenting caused this,) but many, more than will admit it do have this combination of spite and apathy covered previously.

AND, if the older folks want to shit on the millennials, they're the ones that raised us to be so "shitty"

I think the whole occupy wall street thing really gave "my" generation a bad rap.  Those unfocused hippies were only effective at getting news coverage.  I do agree that my parents generation have really fucked a lot up though.  Not sure if that's what everyone thinks about their folks though

Donald Glover is great on Community. Apparently Molly is not aware of his role there and thinks he's a rapper. That's why we hate Milennials!

It is actually amazing how disconnected city folk are from the rest of the world, forget the generations.  "When was the last time you drove through the suburbs and saw a kid mowing the lawn?"  Suburbs?  There is a whole section of the country and entire populations that wake up before the sun rises to feed farm animals and then go and sow fields just so you don't have to imagine where your food comes from.

As much as fun as it is bashing Millenials, they are the first generation that will be worse off than their parents were since the 1940s. Fact.

This generation was raised to be consumers by a capitalism obsessed society- so this is what you get.  They have been assaulted by slick commercials and add campaigns since they were two years old so they have grown into gadget obsessed debt-fueled spend-o-bots.  They have come to believe that each one of them is a brand that needs to be promoted rather than a person.  I can say all this because I was born in '81.

This is why I hate statistics, they are like bikinis......what's shown is revealing, but what's hidden is what is really interesting.  Take the show as example, Hicks falls in this group and Fez missed it by forty years......I don't know anybody that works hard than that centaur and know nobody who does less for their paycheck than Fez

@Vickroy True but the post-WW2 American level of prosperity really was an unsustainable historical anomaly not the natural state of being that most Americans still assume it is.

What made it (almost) unique was that the ruling class let a lot more of the wealth flow down to the middle class.  Our current aristocracy have  turned off the the money spigots pretty tightly since.

TheOandAKid

@BadNewsJeff This generation was raised by overindulgent parents.  Do not blame capitalism for making products, blame the parents for allowing us to do the things we wanted whenever we wanted.  Kids are stupid and their desires and passions need to be tempered by the older and wiser, not just given in to and enhanced by open acceptance.

Personal Branding for the purpose of getting jobs is needed, because this is how corporations and departments see things.  That is something different I believe.

BadNewsJeff

There has not been a generation yet that raised itself, except maybe Adam and Eve.

@FanBoy1 @Vickroy college has a lot to do with it.  this generation, college is more  of a burden than a benefit.  jobs often advertise that they want experience, and if you're in school, you're likely not working in your field, so when you graduate, not only do you not have the required experience, but you're overqualified for the jobs that would give you the experience in order to work up to the job you want.

also, not going to college means you're on a better foot financially. the debt really is crushing.  (and sometimes you realise all too late that you really don't want to work in the field you've been studying.)

@BadNewsJeff @Vickroy OH and for those who have kids and are worried poor lil Timmy or suzy wont be able to support the lifestyle they are "Accustomed to" after your gone.... I suggest you get yer hustle on and set up a nice living trust so they dont have to go without....Thats on you.

@BadNewsJeff @FanBoy1 @Vickroy wasnt useless to me and i made my point...... My wife is lumped into the same category as every single useless youngster ive met in the past 8 years or so in the same age bracket I have 4 that live on either side of my home in the burbs.... useless lazy fuckin kids and I blame the parents NOT the TV commercials for it....

@FanBoy1 @Vickroy When talking about every person born between 1982 and 2000, giving a counter example of one person is a bit useless.  There are exceptions to every rule.
