Quick Question: Marriage

The word marriage never appears anywhere in the US Constitution.  If the US government chose to de-legalize marriage (ending benefits to married couples), would you still get/believe in marriage?

I don't think most people get married as a financial move lol If they do, they probably got married for the wrong reasons.  Sure it's an added benefit but not the sole reason.  It's a lifelong commitment.

I'm a white small business owner.  What's a government bennifit?  In my world the government is nothing but a protection racket on a very large scale.

Why the fuck is the Government ALLOWED to discriminate against the single people? When you're married, generally there are two incomes. Split bills and the like. WTF is a single person going to do? Get a roomie? That is code for F.... excuse me GAY!

Yes I would. My marriage to my wife had nothing to do with benefits.

Yes and I think that they should.  They need to keep record of marriages but that should be their only concern.

Yes.  Why should gays not suffer the joys of divorce?

Why shouldn't child molesters receive the same rights?

I thought that's what my marriage was for, a tax dodge.

Make Marriage a religious ceremony.  Make the legal benefits tied solely to civil unions.  E.G. no more marriage licences for anybody.  Only a church could marry you.

Marriage is a joke today.... People get married and are divorced within 2 to 3 years. Half of married women today are having affairs

if I didn't have to pay 10,000 dollars for a wedding I would never do it. So I guess no I wouldn't get married if the government was out of the pictureh

They would then have to figure out dependent care in the case of children. unless that too would be eliminated, the IRS would have to decide which parent claims which kid or do both claim all. this becomes especially messy when parents disagree on who does what in regards to time and resources spend on a shared dependent.

Yes, marriage should have nothing to do with the government. If the IRS would treat married couples no different than single people, Gays would have no reason to even want to do something like marriage that already has over a 50% failure rate in this country. Truth is the gov doesn't even want gays married because there would be less taxes coming in from the gays. It's all a money bullshit game.

Do you believe that Marriage is an inate religious-based entity and that someone should be a member of a religious institution to become married?

I think the real question is "What did you just say?"

 @justinHat

You do know that there are child molesters who are married, right? And that married people who then molest children are not forced to get a divorce?

and yes, I get that you're angling for the "gays = child molesters" argument. But I chose to ignore the most ridiculous part of yoru comment.

@justinHat yeah they can't help who they love they should be able to marry 9 year old boys

@speedscu Or differentiate the two as religious unions and civil unions. Let the word marriage become a communal word in the eyes of the law.

@Kdaddy Roughly over a year ago when Fez came out and started to care about gay issues for the first time in his 70+ years on Earth.

@neilmcculley No.  There would probably be more taxes if gay couples filed jointly.  In a marriage where both people work, the tax bill is significantly higher - learned that one the hard way.

You're probably right. I still wish the gov got it's nose out of our lives and let us just live like we want to.
