Earl Weaver (1930 – 2013)
If getting thrown out of a baseball game is an art then Earl Weaver was fuckin Picasso.
A true character of the game! One of my favorite memories of him was when I was about 15. I remember him getting thrown out of both games of a double header at Yankee Stadium. The second game he got tossed while giving the umps the lineup cards.
"Terry Crowley's lucky he's in fuckin' baseball for christs sake!" Greatest summary of a player by his own manager ever!
@Amsterclam Jeez, what did he ever do to you.
Sorry KDub, He never did anything to me but I do empathize with people who have to deal with screaming lunatics. That ump probably never made more than $40,000/yr.. And I doubt it stopped with him. The assistant equipment manager, the parking lot attendant, the waitress who brought him his steak medium instead of medium rare. I'm sure Weaver felt he had a right to light into them too. Bobby Knight, Vince Lombardi, Earl Weaver... I don't have an ounce of respect for any of them.
"You're here for one god damn reason.... To fuck us good " - Earl Weaver Ruled!!!!!
The Managers corner segment also on you tube is a great clip
The Manager's Corner piece was great. Jay Mohr talked about it on O and A years ago as well. That ruled. Thanks for posting it.
We always went to Memorial Stadium for four reasons. 1. crabcake sandwiches 2. Natty Boh 3. Orioles victories 4. hoping to see Earl bait the umpires. RIP the Earl of Charm City!
