New Year Eve is amateur night. Why pay hundreds of dollars for well drinks and noise makers when you can chill out with your own party package and a movie to suit the occasion. Here are five films to watch on New Years Eve.

- 200 Cigarettes. New Years Eve 1981 in the Lower East Side. New Wave music… and Jay Mohr, Ben Affleck, and Kate Hudson all smoke because you could do that in New York in the 80s. Throw this on while killing time waiting for midnight, and who knows, maybe Elvis Costello will show.
- Godfather 2. Anyone who hasn’t grabbed their buddy at midnight in New Years Eve kissed him too hard and said ”I know it was you, Fredo. You broke my heart. You broke my heart!” probably doesn’t have a drinking problem. Or at least isn’t obsessed with the greatest sequel of all time.
- When Harry Met Sally. You and your girl can snuggle on your couch under the same blanket watching Harry Met Sally while you secretly wish you were watching Godfather 2. A movie is the only place Billy Crystal could get Meg Ryan . Make sure you make that joke early in the film because it will get said.
- Radio Days. It’s the 1940′s New Years Eve in Times Square when men wore tuxes and the ladies were in gowns. They listened to big band music and drank champagne. Great movie for you to be nostalgic for an era before you were born and you can’t beat the last scene.
- Strange Days. The 90′s were a great time for cyberpunk films when we honestly believed we’d be able to download information into our brains. You’ll get lost in the plot and if you have a dystopian fetish you can be nostalgic for a future that never happened.
