@elephant_droid Well, I hope you select the correct religion out of the thousands that man has invented. Why is there anything at all? I dunno. There is an explanation that will one day be revealed through science, but the simple fact that we cannot yet, with certainty, explain why there is something instead of nothing does not give any religious fantasy any credibility whatsoever. Could there be a higher power? Sure. However, religions are man-made, and do little but stifle wonder and curiosity about discovering the truth of why we are here. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

@elephant_droid Gotcha. I think you and I are probably very similar, but we just apply a slightly different meaning to the term "religion." I too identify myself as an agnostic because I have no means of knowing the truth about why the universe exists and anyone who claims they do should be on a street corner selling pencils out of a cup. I believe that mystery about the origins of the universe is precisely from where the beauty of existence you referred to is derived, and it is also the source of "awe" of which Ron frequently speaks. 'According to Hoyle' religions squelch that sense of mystery by offering implausible answers to deep and profound questions, and thus discourage the quest for true knowledge. We are indeed cavemen standing mystified by fire in the face of understanding our existence, and I'm of the opinion that the recognition of that fact is very much where understanding begins. I would also be remiss if I failed to give you kudos for so eloquently working in a dig at Hicks. Bravo.
@kylechristo4 Religion from this world is earth-centric and human-centric. Completely agree with you. Maybe I am agnostic more than religious. I think we both agree that what we know about the origins of the universe is just a small fraction of what science can reveal. Just like you, I dunno and hope to see as much discovery in my life as I can that helps answer these questions. Also, I totally recognize that when seeing videos like this, metaphorically I'm a present-day aztec or caveman or whatever that thinks there is a chariot with horses (or centaurs) pulling the sun across the sky each day. From the beauty and enormity of all that exists, that's why I feel science and a higher power can both exist and could have a common origin.

When I was about 12 or so National Geographic magazine had a map of the universe in it. Its that famous one that starts with earth and backs up to the solar system.. to the milky way.. ect.. That BLEW my mind then. We are very very small.

that is really cool, did not know there was so many satellites up there. that must be a logistical nightmare for nasa and all other space programs.
@Burley Last time I had access to that particular data there were over 30,000 "space objects" up there. It has to be between 40000-50000 now. The UN allots a certain about of satellite slots for each nation for their satellites. Once a satellite is place into their orbital slot, they're not going anywhere unless moved with propulsion.
Is this some sort of subliminal advertising? It makes me want to buy a planet. Where can I buy a planet!?
